Drunkards and Flagons Gold


This week we have exited beta and entered gold! We made a lot of changes revolving around feedback received from instructors and peers; most obviously, we decided to rename the game to something more witty - in this case, that would be "Drunkards and Flagons." We also did quite a bit of overhauling to the look of the game, particularly in the UI. The first change was that we changed all of our fonts to something that is much easier to read and just generally looks nicer. We also changed all of our buttons to use a different sprite, a welcome change that adds a nice bit of polish. In terms of new content for the game, we added an ending to tie things up, as well as a very interesting new mechanic regarding the rivers in level two that we wanted to introduce last week, but couldn't in time. We also added in a bit more player guidance to help them get past the sort of "puzzly" parts of the game so that the player could focus more on other gameplay aspects. Generally speaking, we made a lot of small changes which we felt were glaring issues with the game up to this point, which should help tremendously in making the game more enjoyable.
In terms of what's next for this project, we will now move on to showcasing our game and receiving feedback! There were some things that we wanted to add but ran out of time for. We had originally planned for a snow golem boss in the ice level that was scrapped. We also had a drink which gave the player spectral fists to fight ghosts with, however we felt that focusing on the drinks we already had levels designed around would result in a better experience and dropped it.
